Privacy and cookies

DutiDeals compares duty-free whisky prices at airports. You don't need an account, and we don't ask for your name, email or phone number to use the site. This page explains what little we do collect and why.

What we collect

Anonymous usage counts

When you plan a route, open a bottle, add a bottle to your bag or search for something we don't have, the site records:

We don't store your IP address, a cookie or any visitor ID with these events, so they can't be linked to you or to each other. We use them to decide which airports and bottles to check next. Known bots are not counted.

Site analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't keep anything that identifies you across days.

Saved on your device only

Your route and your bag are saved in your browser's local storage so they're there when you come back. They never leave your device unless you share a bag link yourself. Clearing your browser data removes them.

Server logs

Like any website, our host (Vercel) briefly processes your IP address and browser details to deliver pages and protect against abuse. We don't use these logs to track visitors.

Some links go to online shops or travel services that pay us a commission if you buy something after clicking. The price you pay is the same. Commissions never decide which prices we show or the order we show them in; prices from airport shops are ranked only by price.

When you follow an affiliate link, the shop or its affiliate network (for example Awin, Impact or Travelpayouts) sets a cookie on its own site so it can credit the sale to us. That cookie is theirs, and their privacy policy applies.

If you browse from the UK or the EU/EEA, we ask before using affiliate links. Until you say yes, those links go straight to the shop with no tracking. You can change your choice at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. Your choice is saved in your browser only.

DutiDeals itself sets no advertising or tracking cookies.

Price reports and photos (coming later)

We plan to let travellers send in prices they saw at the airport, with a photo of the receipt or shelf tag. This isn't live yet. When it is, this page will be updated first, and:

Who processes data for us

We don't sell data, and we don't share it with advertisers.

How long we keep it

The anonymous usage counts don't identify anyone, so we keep them while they help us plan which airports to add. Server logs are kept by Vercel for a short period under its own policy.

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law (the GDPR) you can ask what personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Because we don't collect names, emails or IP addresses, we usually hold nothing that identifies you. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in the UK that's the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Contact

A contact address for privacy questions is being set up.

Changes

If we change what we collect, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the change goes live.
